Magic Morph Reviewer's Comments
Magic Morph, our #7-ranked product, creates nice-looking morphs and has potential to be a contender in the morphing industry, but several program glitches earned Magic Morph a mediocre rank.
Magic Morph allows you to create three kinds of morphs:
- Merge Morph, a classic morph that merges the Source Image to the Target Image
- Source Warp, where you warp or distort the Source Image in fun ways
- Target Warp, where you can apply similar effects to the Target Image We had trouble when trying the Merge Morph tool. We tried to resize and crop the Source Image, but eventually the computer locked up. We had to reboot to get Magic Morph going again, and we lost all of our work. Magic Morph allows you to perform basic tasks like importing images and applying control points with ease. One tool lets you magnify the area where you point your cursor, giving you greater accuracy in the placement of control points. When applying control points in Magic Morph, you can place them manually or (as with most morphing programs) you can place them on the Source Image and the program will automatically place them on the Target Image-saving time and effort. After the computer automatically places the Target Image points, it's normal to manually adjust them to increase accuracy. But to move these points in Magic Morph, you must right click each, select the "move point" option and then drag the point to the correct location. This task-heavy procedure wastes more time than it saves. When you import your Source and Target Images to Magic Morph, they appear to be low quality, which was so grainy (especially when you zoom in) that it hindered the placement of control points. However, the final image output and morph are photo quality. Magic Morph imports these file formats: JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF, ICO, TGA, PCX, WBMP and more. Magic Morph will output to these file formats: AVI Movie, GIF Movie, SWF Flash, JPEG Sequence, BMP Sequence, and GIF Sequence.
Ease of Use:
Magic Morph is much more challenging to use than other morphing programs, the layout has confusing organization and the controls need streamlining.
We found glitches in Magic Morph that make us question its stability. For example-after finishing the tutorial, our display screen turned white and it took a while to figure out how to get back into the program.
Ease of Installation:
We had no problems installing Magic Morph.
Help/Documentation:
Magic Morph's help offers a basic tutorial a Getting Started guide and a Contents Search tool, but the data in these files only touched the surface.
Summary:
If the makers of Magic Morph can workout glitches and make the help section and the overall controls more convenient and user-friendly, Magic Morph could easily be in our top three. But for the same amount of money, we recommend FantaMorph.
