WinMorph Reviewer's Comments
WinMorph, our #9-ranked product, is a morphing and warping software program that's distributed as freeware for business or personal use. Although WinMorph doesn't have the best features and isn't easy to manage, it's hard to beat the price. Although WinMorph is freeware, you must contact the author if you plan to distribute the program.
WinMorph allows you to apply morph and warp effects to both video and images. WinMorph works as a stand-alone product and as a plug-in for products like Adobe Premiere, Vegas Video and Wax.
Once you load your Source Image and Target Image, WinMorph's Transform tool lets you move, resize and rotate the images, or specific shapes.
WinMorph also offers a Zoom tool, which enlarges images for greater ease in setting up your control area. The Polyline tool lets you create a shape by drawing a set of connected lines.
WinMorph does not offer Real Time Playing; this means you'll need to save your renderings to a file before viewing your morphs.
WinMorph is only available for Windows, but will soon be available for Linux. WinMorph accepts input formats of JPEG, BMP, PCX, PNG, PBM, TGA, and TIFF and exports in JPEG, BMP, PNG, TGA, TIFF, AVI, MPEG and SWF formats.
Ease of Use:
Although some parts of WinMorph's navigation were simple to use, others were confusing. For example, we found it easy to load the Source and Target Images, but it was much more challenging to edit WinMorph's control lines. Control points offered in higher ranked morphing software were far simpler to manage.
Unfortunately, WinMorph is not intuitive to navigate so you will spend time in the help section.
Ease of Installation:
Downloading WinMorph was challenging, as is common with downloading most freeware. We tried several links, but most were either broken links or sites that wanted to sell us a different program. Even the website we finally downloaded WinMorph from, took us a while to navigate through, as it also kept trying to sell us products. Once the download started, we didn't have any further problems.
Help/Documentation:
WinMorph offers a few brief tutorials that cover the basics. You can download a Users Guide PDF document for quick reference. You can also post queries and share your knowledge about WinMorph at the WinMorph UserForum.
Summary:
WinMorph's best feature is the price, FREE-perfect for anyone low on funds or simply experimenting with morphing. But if you're serious about morphing and want a program that's intuitive, feature-loaded and not too expensive, we recommend FantaMorph.
